The National ADA Symposium is a national initiative of the ADA Network and is hosted by the Great Plains and Rocky Mt. ADA Centers. The ADA Network consists of ten regional centers that were established in 1992 by the U.S. Dept. of Education to provide information, training, and technical assistance on the Americans with Disabilities Act.Purpose
This three day conference is designed to provide the latest information on ADA regulations and guidelines, implementation strategies, and best practices through dynamic, interactive sessions. The ADA Symposium is also designed to bring together the many different groups that work with or are effected by the ADA in their work and daily lives to network, problem solve, and share solutions. Our goal is to make sure participants get useful information that is applicable to their work and daily lives. Over 95% of prior Symposium attendees reported they learned something that they could use on the job!Session Schedule
The 2010 ADA Symposium provides two and half hour sessions to allow plenty of time for in-depth training, discussion, and questions. Participants create a customized schedule by selecting sessions that meet their needs and interests from a schedule of 48 sessions from a wide variety of topics. Breakfast round tables provide an opportunity for attendees to meet with presenters and talk about specific issues and questions. The structure of the three day ADA Symposium emphasis in-depth learning, networking, and opportunities to address individual questions. Our session schedule is designed to meet the needs of attendees from a variety of occupations and backgrounds.- Architects/Builders
The schedule provides a learning track designed for architects and builders. Sessions are presented by trainers from the US. Access Board and the International Code Council (ICC).
- ADA Coordinators
ADA Coordinators will find a learning track designed specifically for their needs. The sessions are presented by ADA Coordinators with years of hands-on experience and trainers from the U.S. Dept. of Justice. ADA Coordinators will have the opportunity to get in-depth information and learn strategies for effectively carrying out the role of an ADA Coordinator.
- Building Code Officials
The schedule provides a learning track designed specifically for building code officials. Sessions are presented by trainers from the U.S. Access Board and the International Code Council (ICC). Sessions from this track are approved for Continuing Education Units by the ICC.
Disability Advocates, Service Providers, Individuals with Disabilities and their Family Members
A number of sessions address the issues that are critical to full inclusion and the quality of life for people with disabilities and their family members. Emergency preparedness, effective communication, advocacy, transportation, health care, and the complaint process are examples of the issues covered during the National ADA Symposium.
- Human Resource Professionals
The passage of the ADA Amendments Act and the release of regulations by the EEOC directly affect Human Resource Managers. An entire learning track is devoted to employment and the ADA with all sessions emphasizing how the responsibilities of employers are effected by the new regulations.
- State and Local Government Officials
State and local government officials need clear, current information regarding ADA regulations and U.S. Dept. of Justice programs such as Project Civic Access. They can get that information directly from representatives from the U.S. Department of Justice at the National ADA Symposium. A variety of sessions are offered that cover the issues that are important to state and local government officials as well as opportunities to get answers to your specific questions.
Presenters
A main feature of the ADA Symposium is the opportunity to learn directly from the federal agencies that both write the regulations and enforce the ADA. Representatives from the U.S. Department of Justice, the EEOC, the U.S. Access Board routinely present at the National ADA Symposium. All Symposium presenters are recognized experts in ADA implementation.
